Film Education Sites

Screen Online This British Film Institute online resource is the definitive guide to Britain’s film and TV history.  The site represents to rich diversity of Britain’s film and television traditions from the 1890s to the present day.   It also explores lesser known but equally fascinating work neglected elsewhere.

Film Education  Since 1985, Film Education has been developing the range of its publications and services to respond to the growing importance of Media Education in the National Curriculum and to meet the increasing demand for current educational material on film and film making.  In supporting teachers, Film Education gives pupils the opportunity to analyse and evaluate not only film but also a wide range of Media.  In addition to providing free educational materials, Film Education organises training courses, conferences, workshops, seminars and events including National Schools Film Week.

Film Street  Film Street is designed to unlock imaginations, introduce the joys of film and encourage creative expression through filmmaking. Archive Film

North West Film Archive The North West Film Archive is Britain's largest public collection outside London. The Archive was set up in 1977 and is the professionally recognised home for moving images made in or about Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire. The region's position at the forefront of industrialisation is reflected in the Archive's Collection which is a powerful record of modern urban society.

Silent Cinema

Bristol Silents  aim to raise awareness and knowledge of silent cinema amongst the film going public, support and present a range of Silent films along with educational programmes designed to increase understanding and appreciation of this unique art form.

Student and Young People’s Film Sites

First Light First Light fund and inspire the making of short films by young people in the UK, reflecting the diversity of their lives.  They have enabled over 9,000 young people between the ages of five and eighteen to write, act, shoot and produce over 600 films.  Working with filmmakers and organisations, First Light films cover many topics and genres, and make use of accessible digital film technology.

exposures exposures is a unique, national showcase for the very best student filmmaking in the UK. Lasting four days, the festival takes place every December at Cornerhouse in Manchester. As well as selecting, showing and awarding the best new filmmaking across five categories - Drama, Documentary, Animation, Experimental and Music Video - it also hosts a range of masterclasses, premieres, workshops and discussions - all designed to further young British talent.

Reel Streets A site devoted to British film locations, and places where films were made in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, in the years 1920's to 1980's,

Greatest Film Site Composed of thousands of pages, this site is a comprehensive resource for classic film buffs and all who are interested in films.  The site include interpretive and detailed plot synopses, review commentary and a wealth of film reference material including the historical background for hundreds of classic Hollywood/American and other English-language films in the last century.
