As the coalition forces invade Iraq in the hunt for Saddam, Seven children take cover from the bombs and sniper fire under the kitchen table. Separated from their parents, Leyla, the oldest of the children at 11, becomes responsible for their survival. It’s not long before the need to find food and water forces them out from under the table. As the story unfolds the children find themselves taking refuge in Baghdad Zoo, and are shocked and appalled to find the animals have been abonded in the cages. Based on true events, this poignant story not only shows us the impact of war on our young but also their remarkable courage and endurance as these even children make the survival of the remaining animals as important as their own.
