What is The Dukes?

The Dukes is a unique theatre and cultural centre for Lancashire.  The company creates and presents its own theatre productions, promotes Lancashire talent and acts as a resource for our community.  We also present visiting productions, films and events, bringing a diverse range of first class talent from elsewhere into Lancashire.

The Dukes has three performance spaces – The Rake (traditional ‘end on’ stage, 313 capacity), The Round (in the round, 235 capacity) and DT3, a dedicated performance space for young people’s participatory arts.  The Dukes has a gallery used for exhibitions, meetings and occasional film screenings.

The Dukes Mission is to create and encourage great art which changes people’s lives for the better.

The organisation
The Dukes was formed in 1971, is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.  The Dukes is governed by a Board of Directors which includes representatives from City and County Councils.
